> Steven Hahn will give the Emancipation at 150 keynote presentation on Thursday, February 21st, at 7:00 pm in the College Union Ballroom.
> Steven Hahn is a distinguished professor at the University of Pennsylvania and the author of many books and articles on the history of slavery, emancipation, and southern history. In 2004, he received the Pulitzer Prize in History for his book, A Nation Under Our Feet: Black Political Struggles in the Rural South from Slavery to the Great Migration. The title of his talk is "Slave Emancipation, Indian Peoples, and the Projects of a New American State." A reception will follow.
> Emancipation at 150 is a series of events at Geneseo to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation. On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued a proclamation which freed the slaves in the states remaining in rebellion during the American Civil War. Please join us for this opportunity to reflect on the legacy of emancipation and its meaning for our own time.
> This event is sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Office of Multicultural Affairs, and the Departments of History, English, Anthropology and Black Studies.
