 Through
September 7 "A show as stimulating to the mind and the ear as it is to the
eye." —*The New York Times*

*One-Way Ticket* marks the centennial of the beginning of the Great
Migration, the multi-decade mass movement of African Americans from the
rural South to the urban North. The exhibition provides a rare opportunity
to see Jacob Lawrence's Migration Series in its entirety, and sheds light
on the young painter's engagement with contemporary artists and thinkers in
a broad variety of mediums.

Also on view are novels and poems by writers such as Langston Hughes,
Claude McKay, and Richard Wright; audio and video recordings of musical
performances by Marian Anderson, Duke Ellington, and Billie Holiday;
photographs by Dorothea Lange, Gordon Parks, and Robert McNeill;
sociological studies by Carter G. Woodson and Emmett J. Scott; political
cartoons by Romare Bearden and Charles Alston; and paintings, drawings, and
prints by Alston, Bearden, and Charles White.

New commissions, talks, performances, films, digital resources,
publications, and more put contemporary artists in conversation with
Lawrence's landmark work and explore the legacy of the Great Migration.
