Geneseo has partnered for several years with the Foundation for Sustainable Development to provide internship opportunities for undergraduates working with local community development organizations in Jinja, Uganda. The program stresses an asset based approach to development that begins with the priorities set by community partners.
Please join me at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, October 29 in the Fraser PLSC/IR Lounge for an information session on the 2016 summer internship in Uganda. The program offers an intensive 9 week internship with a local NGO. You will receive training and support as you work with a local NGO to develop and implement a community development project in areas such as micro-finance, public health, gender empowerment, community organizing and other areas. The FSD approach stresses asset based community development that focuses on working with existing local resources, capabilities, and needs-assessment, rather than top-down externally driven development models.
The program dates are still tentative, but most likely will run from about one week after graduation until late-July.
Here is an amazing video made by one of the Geneseo program participants from 2013 that provides an overview of her experiences and work:
Here is a link to the program description at the Geneseo Study Abroad page. It has not been updated to reflect dates and prices for next year, but should give you a general idea of core information:
Please feel free to share this message with any friends & colleagues, or through any club/course/departmental mailing lists that you think might be relevant. This program earns 3 or 6 hours of college credit that can be applied to Political Science, International Relations, and potentially other majors as well. It also satisfies the IR study abroad/internship related requirement.
Let me know if you have any questions, and I hope to see you there,
Political Science and International Relations
