> hursday, 1/21 info (Sisters of Selma Talk)
> Jan. 21, 2016 --- join the AFAM 199 Research Writing class as they listen to activists-foot soldiers of the Modern Civil Rights movement tell their very different eyewitness accounts. SR. BARBARA LUM recalls her years in Selma, AL as a nurse sent by Rochester’s Sisters of St. Joseph. Sr. Barbara treated the wounded on Bloody Sunday, including then SNCC president John Lewis. On the other hand, DR. ALTHEA TAIT’S story centers on her school-age years in Birmingham, AL where she used words as weapons to gain an arsenal, not of guns but of books, so she & her siblings could learn even though the odds were against their becoming victors.
