*As part of the remembrance of the 80th anniversary of the 1937 Massacre,
the Juan Bosch Foundation extends an invitation to the presentation of
works by/on Juan Bosch on Wednesday, October 18, at the Juan Bosch Room of
the Pedro Henríquez Ureña National Library (3rd floor) at 6:30pm (Santo
Domingo, Dominican Republic). *

*Juan Bosch: para comprender Haití* [Juan Bosch: To Understand Haiti] is a
book edited by Matías Bosch Carcuro, which brings together selected texts
by Juan Bosch. The book will be presented by Ricardo Seitenfus (former
representative of the Organization of American States in Haiti), a great
scholar of the subject.

*De la masacre a la sentencia 168-13: apuntes para la historia de la
segregación de los haitianos y sus descendientes en República Dominicana *[From
the massacre to sentence 168-13: Notes on the history of segregation of
Haitians and their descendants in the Dominican Republic] by historian
Amelia Hintzen, will also be introduced. This book examines the historical
development of the Dominican-Haitian communities in the sugar plantations
of the Dominican Republic, and how these spaces—*bateyes* and *ingenios*—formed
our understanding of race, ethnicity, and belonging to a nation.
