Please join me for an information session on PLSC 221 - Democratization online summer course.

When: Friday, April 27 at 11:30 am
Where: Fraser 108

The course fulfills requirements for both the Political Science and International Relations majors (Developing World, Global Political Economy, and War and Peace tracks).

What is it like to live under an authoritarian regime? And what are the conditions that lead authoritarian regimes to become democracies? We explore these questions and many more in PLSC 221 - Democratization.

This summer, PLSC 221: Democratization will be taught online but will feature a 3-day field experience in Red Hook, Brooklyn, where students will interact with and hear perspectives from community residents who have immigrated to the USA after fleeing oppressive or unstable political regimes in their home countries. The goal is to give students a real-life, human perspective on some of the topics the course will cover.

The population of Red Hook, Brooklyn, is 44% Latino, many of whom are Spanish-speaking immigrants that have recent experience with different regime types. In addition, Red Hook hosts a huge gathering of Latin food trucks every summer, which will provide students further opportunity for cross-cultural and interpersonal exchanges.

If you are interested in taking this course, you need to submit an application via the Study Abroad Office's Horizons site. Here is the link: https://suny-geneseo-horizons.symplicity.com/?s=programs&mode=form&id=8f32106763895b9ca6ba2eeb2c9ed68d
