Earn Biology credits while studying abroad in Africa!

There are still a few spaces left for the Global Health program in Ghana
this year. There are two upcoming information sessions scheduled for Biol.
344, Biology and Global Health, this summer’s study abroad program in Ghana
in West Africa. Dates for the program this year are May 24–June 24. The
deadline for applications is approaching soon.

Information sessions are scheduled for:

*Wednesday, February 6 at 4:00 pm in CU 324 (after the Study Abroad Fair)

*Thursday, February 7 at 1:00 pm in ISC 206

*Biol. 344, Biology and Global Health:* Earn 300-level elective and
laboratory credit toward the Biology major and minor while studying abroad
in West Africa in the summer of 2019. This class will introduce students to
public health and environmental issues and their intersection in a lower
middle-income country. Prerequisites: Biol. 117 & 119

The approach taken in this course is largely experiential and applied, and
site visits will include schools, hospitals, businesses, farms, markets,
national parks, wildlife sanctuaries, and community development
projects. Embedded in the course is a research experience working with
neglected tropical diseases in a marginalized community on the outskirts of
the capital city in conjunction with a public health research laboratory at
the University of Ghana.

More information, including cost, is available on the Geneseo Study Abroad
web site, or from Susan Bandoni Muench (bandoni at geneseo.edu). The program
fee includes all accommodation, transportation, and class activities as
well as about half of the meals. Additional purchases are economical due
to the low cost of living in Ghana relative to the US.

This course will coincide with Ghana - GEOG 388: Urban Lives & Livelihoods
