*Engl 101: Topics in Literature--Literature, Medicine, and Racism*
*MW 10:30-12:10 Welles 119*
*Beth McCoy*

Anticipating the presence on campus of scholars from multiple disciplines,
we’ll read fiction, poetry, and scholarship examining the mingling of white
supremacy, anti-black racism, and what Harriet Washington calls
"scientifically questionable and ethically troubled medical research."
Works by Thomas Jefferson, Percival Everett, Toni Morrison, Octavia Butler,
Marilyn Nelson, and more. Cross-disciplinary conversation key, along with
interrogation of evidence. Emphasis on think*ing*, convers*ing*, consider
*ing*, reflect*ing *as necessary preconditions for medical school, law
school, activism, being human.
