A reminder that next week sees the final event in the Geneseo Literary
Forum for the year: a lecture and reading by Fred D'Aguiar:

*Wednesday 27th March *
Poet, novelist, and playwright *Fred D'Aguiar* gives a *Black Studies
lecture* at *2.30pm-3.45pm* in the *Hunt Room (CU 135) *and a literary
reading *6pm-7pm* in *Doty Tower Room (300)*

British-Guyanese writer *Fred D'Aguiar*, who has lived and taught in the US
since 1995, has long explored the legacy of slavery across the Black
Atlantic. His first novel, *The Longest Memory* (1994), tells the story of
Whitechapel, a slave on an eighteenth-century Virginia plantation. His
plays include *A Jamaican Airman Foresees His Death*, performed at the
Royal Court Theatre, London, in 1991. He is also the author of the novels *Dear
Future* (1996), set on a fictional Caribbean island; *Feeding the
Ghosts* (1997),
based on the true story of the Zong massacre, in which 132 enslaved
Africans (men, women and children) were thrown overboard from a slave ship so
the Insurers could profit from their death; the poetry collections *Bill of
Rights* (1998); a long narrative poem about the Jonestown massacre in
Guyana in 1979 and *Continental Shelf* (2009) shortlisted for the 2009 T.
S. Eliot Prize. He is the author most recently of *Translations from Memory*;
this and some other books will be on sale at the reading and available for
signing, as well as on sale at Barnes & Noble on campus.

The Geneseo Literary Forum is made possible by the kind sponsorship of the
Provost's Office, Student and Campus Life, the English Department, the
History Department, Black Studies, and Gandy Dancer, Geneseo's SUNY-wide
literary journal.
