Dear students,

Below is a call for applications to train to become a Safe Zone facilitator
on campus. Safe Zone is a unique and incredibly valuable program that
prepares participants with knowledge and skills to be a good ally
surrounding LGBTQ issues. This is an amazing leadership opportunity and
chance to become part of the crew of really wonderful people who facilitate
Safe Zone at Geneseo. Please read on and consider applying!

Warm regards,
Prof. Guzmán

Are you passionate about LGBTQ issues? Do you want to develop your

facilitation and leadership skills while making contributions to creating a
more welcoming and inclusive place at Geneseo? Do you want to get to know

LGBTQ & ally faculty & staff and work alongside them?

Dr. Alice Rutkowski (English/Women’s & Gender Studies) will be offering an

academic course that teaches students the information and facilitation

skills they need to feel prepared to facilitate Safe Zone workshops. WGST

232: Safe Zone Train-the-Trainer is a two-credit course, M/W, 9:30-10:20

and students must apply for admission. The class is a mix of content

(LGBTQ history, terminology, contemporary issues and problems) and training

in public speaking, group facilitation and collaboration.

Requirements: students must have a demonstrated interest in (but don't have

to identify as) LGBTQ; need to have completed at least one semester

at Geneseo; must be available the whole academic year for which they apply.

You’ll need to fill out an application (click below to check out the
application), and send an unofficial transcript & the name of two
recommenders to Prof. Rutkowski
