With the end of the semester just around the corner, it's time for
graduating students to think about life after college.  I am writing about
French teaching jobs in private & independent schools around the South and
hope that you will forward this message to students interested in
teaching.

Southern Teachers Agency is the oldest teacher placement agency in America
and is a free resource for teacher candidates. Hundreds of private schools
list jobs with STA each year, and the hiring season actually starts in
January.  By applying now, candidates can be considered for even the
earliest vacancies.

Private schools seek teachers who have a deep understanding of their
subject material.  Letters of recommendation from college professors are
essential for verifying this understanding.  The sooner you request
letters from professors, the sooner you can assemble a complete file.  So
the perfect time to start the application process is right now.

Important note:  Private schools certainly value candidates who have gone
through a teacher certification program, but they have the flexibility to
hire graduates to teach in their major.  Thus, schools will indeed hire
French majors to teach French-even if they don't have an education degree.

As a reminder, active STA candidates will be invited to be part of our
Teachers Fair in Washington, DC, at the end of February. The deadline to
apply to become an active candidate for this fair is January 28, 2011.
