[Musicfaculty-l] DSI Recommendations - Quick Response Requested

*Hello, all.

I received this email today at 2:27 p.m. regarding DSI for the 2010-2011 
academic year:*

Dear Colleagues:

Attached please find your department's spreadsheet for DSI awards for 
2011. You will see from the accompanying timeline that the calendar is 
tight for submitting these recommendations. I would ask that you forward 
to Susan Marie (marie at geneseo.edu <mailto:marie at geneseo.edu>)  via email 
your completed spreadsheet listing your recommendations for your area, 
along with:
    * a description of the criteria and process you used for making the 
awards;
    * a brief justification for each award;
    * any special requests you might have.

Please have these recommendations to the Provost's Office by the end of 
the day on **September 30th** if at all possible.  If you need a few 
extra days to complete your recommendations, please let Susan Marie know 
in advance.

I have three guidelines for this year's awards:
1. The cap on awards for adjunct faculty, should you make awards in that 
category, will be $100.
2. Please be sure that criteria you use for the awards are clear and 
shared appropriately with your colleagues.
3. Please try to avoid the practice of simply dividing the total amount 
up evenly over the individuals in your area.

/According to the Agreement between New York State and United University 
Professions (UUP) the State shall make available an amount equal to one 
percent of the total of the salaries of UUP members on the payroll as of 
June 30, 2011, for distribution at the discretion of the President to 
incumbents on the payroll on June 30, 2011.Discretionary Salary 
Increases (DSI) can be awarded to full-time and to part-time UUP 
represented employees./

I have attached the matrix that was developed last year for DSI 
consideration, except that items relating to Dance, Art, and Theater 
have been removed. As I recall, it was reviewed initially by each of the 
departments last year, and I think we should review it again during the 
coming months. In the meantime, if you have any particular concerns 
about the matrix, please let me know that. I have not included the 
departmental spreadsheet mentioned in the Provost's email, but it 
indicates that the total amount of DSI that is available for 
distribution amongst all members of the Music Department is $7,034.15. **

In the past I have requested that you send information to me regarding 
(a) your activities for the past year, usually in the form of a copy of 
the FAR you submitted to the Provost on June 30, and (b) a few lines on 
what you believe should be considered for DSI. As you can see, the 
timeline that has been provided is extremely tight. If you could 
possibly have something to me by the end of Tuesday next week (September 
27), that would be helpful.
