Our Circulation system (SIRSI) sends out reminder notices for all
checked out materials- be they JPL or ILL- to everyone who provides us
with an e-mail addess. These are usually sent out about 3 days before
the material is due.

I agree with Tim and Jennifer that the pre-due date notices have helped
a lot to lower the amount of overdue materials. We also get a lot of
renew requests as soon as these are sent. To answer your other question
about sending them manually each day...I send ours out once a week. All
you have to do is click a button and all three overdue notices
(pre-notice, 1st overdue, and 2nd overdue) get sent simultaneously. I
wouldn't send them on a daily basis because every time you click the
button, everyone on the list gets a notice. So as long as the book
isn't returned the patron would get a notice every day. That borders on
harassment, I think. I think once a week is perfect.
Sincerely,
Sue

After we started using it, I noticed a ton more user-initiated renewals.
I think people appreciated the reminders. However, since the ILLiad
emails currently don't have the due date populate and I have no clue
when a fix for that will be released, it makes them somewhat less
helpful.

I would be interested in hearing from libraries who use the negative
number in the OverdueGraceDays. How does that work for you? Do patrons
find that annoying or a helpful reminder? Do you find you have less
overdue material this way?
Am I also correct that overdues must be manually sent out each day? Is
there a way to automate this?
