Would you mind sharing how you are doing the downloading and compressing of the chapters? Is there one method you are using for all types of ebooks or does it vary by vendor? Are you using some sort of software to extract chapters? Would love to know more.

Pamela,
At Oregon State University our Springer license allows ILL of the ebook titles we have. We have been sending chapters as requested similar to how we send electronic article requests. We are currently testing out a way to download the chapters, compress them into a zip file, save them to a secured server, and send the authentication to the file to the lending library to open up and disseminate to their patron. As we are still in the testing phase, I don't yet have a feeling if this method will be feasible to fit into our workload. It takes time to download the chapters and compress them.
I also know of some libraries that are using products online such as "you send it". These products might work if you don't have the server space or technology support to keep the files locally.
