[Workflowtoolkit-l] OCLC hosted or not

Hi Heather,

We are hosted. To answer your questions:

1) Yes we have access to the ILLiad database to run queries via an ODBC link. This link allows you to connect to the data from within MS Access.

2) For support on customized web pages, OCLC often helps as best they can. However if something works on the page they provide and doesn't work on our customized version, it usually means something on our side is negatively affecting the coding and they generally suggest reverting back to the pages they've developed.

Hope this helps,

I'd be interested in this as well if people want to reply to the list.

Along with the questions that Pam has, I'd be interested in finding out if you have access to the ILLiad database to run queries or if you have to use Access. Also, if OCLC allows you to use custom scripting in the ILLiad web pages or if that's not allowed because they're supporting it.

Thanks,
Heather

Hello,
We are trying to find out info about using OCLC as the host for our ILLiad server.
I was wondering if anyone can provide any information about how it's working for them.
We've looked at their website, but I'd like to see if anyone can tell me their experience with this.

Just a few questions I have about using OCLC are:

Is it better or worse than running your own server, what's the cost, how easy is it to get in touch with them when there is a problem, or you want to change something. Does OCLC automatically update ILLiad when there is an upgrade?
Is it more for smaller libraries or do larger universities use this service?

If you want to email me directly with any info, just send it to pmiddlet at mtsu.edu.

I appreciate any insight into this matter.
