Hi Kathy and Andrea,

Nate and Frank gave some great information, but I thought some screenshots might help. I've done some presentations on using open access to fill borrowing requests. This one includes some screenshots and information on ILLiad workflow and email template possibilities: http://hdl.handle.net/1805/2538. I've also created a couple of custom queues to isolate potential open access requests before they can go out on OCLC. There are screenshots of those routing rules in this presentation: http://hdl.handle.net/1805/2671. Hope you find these helpful! Feel free to contact me if you have questions.

Thank you both for posting. I was in the middle of trying to re-think how to do this ("deliver" things that are free on the web) and these ideas really helped.

An approach we use is to retain the transaction in Borrowing and user our own symbol as the supplier. We then save the PDF to the ILLiad server's PDF directory and use an email routing rule to notify the patron and set the transaction status to Delivered to Web.

Using our own symbol allows us to track how many transactions are filled in this manner.

Once you locate the PDF on Google Scholar, save it to your preferred location. If you host your own ILLiad server, you may have permissions to save directly to your PDF folder. If you are OCLC/Atlas hosted, then you can set up an FTP shortcut to the illiad/pdf folder on your hosted server. Contact your library IT or host to arrange if you do not already have this capability.

We tend to cancel such requests and supply the URL to the patron vs. delivering the material via ILLiad. If I were to deliver vs. cancelling, then I would do so by transferring to the DD module, routing to "In DD Stacks Searching" and Notify Electronic Delivery once I was updating Stacks Searching. If you have the PDF already in the illiad/pdf folder on your server, there is no "importing" that needs to be done. This is the workflow we use when delivering DD/PPV material to patrons - other sites may differ.

Going back to these types of "cancellations": I break out the cancellation reasons to a fine level of granularity, so that when I run ILLiad reports, I can count these as a type of "fill". From my perspective, this method is much quicker than actually delivering the PDFs to each patron.

We are a new ILLiad site, still trying to figure things out. If I have a borrowing request, and I use the Google Scholar add -on to find the full text of the article so I don't have to order it, How do I import that PDF into ILLiad to post on the patron's account?

Thanks in advance!

Kathy
